Paper Recycling

Taking care of our trees

When we were children we learnt that paper comes from trees – and, generally, our young minds found that pretty incredible. But, as we got older, we start to take this for granted. And that’s because paper is everywhere, from newspapers and magazines, leaflets and brochures, to good old-fashioned A4 sheets. We use it every day, in so many different situations, that we almost forget where it came from. But, instead of treating paper like an endless resource, now, more than ever, we need to remember its roots. By recycling just one tonne of paper, we can save 17 trees and 4000KW of energy – that’s enough to power a house for a year.

Paper can be recycled up to 7 times

When clean and uncontaminated, paper has the potential to be recycled up to 7 times. And doing so uses 70% less energy than making new (virgin) paper, saves us having to cut down trees and creates a circular economy.

Did you know…

If every person in the UK recycled just 10% more paper, we would save approximately 5 million trees each year!

Loop Closed. Resource Recycled.

Collection
On a pre-scheduled date, we’ll come and collect your non-confidential papers and transport them back to our recycling depot.
Sorting
Once at the depot, the paper will be graded, baled and sent on to a paper mill for reprocessing.
Pulping
At the mill, the paper will be put into a large vat and mixed with water to break down the fibres, before turning into a pulp. This pulp will then be filtered and screened to remove any contaminants, like glue and plastic.
Drying
After this, the pulp will be poured onto a huge, flat wire screen to drain excess water and allow the remaining fibres to bond together to form a watery sheet. This sheet, now resembling paper, will pass through a series of heavy rollers to squeeze out more water, heated cylinders for drying and another roller for ironing.
Rolling
Lastly, the paper will be wound into a giant roll, before being cut into smaller rolls or sheets, and will be ready for use all over again!
