Insider View: Message from our MD

News

With the new year well under way, 2017 has quickly turned from present to past. But, before it fully cements itself in history, this feels a good time to have a look back at the year just gone.

Message from our MD

2017 was a year of challenge and change. Plastic hit the media, prompting many questions about its recyclability, and China tightened up on its waste imports, creating a surplus on the UK and European markets. But challenges are there to be overcome, and, by producing quality material, we have managed to maintain sales. Our staff have proved, yet again, that they are capable of managing these industry shifts. So thanks to our team, and to all of our loyal trading partners, we saw a year of sales growth in line with pre-set goals. The year ahead will undoubtedly bring new challenges, but our targets are set higher than ever.

2017 also saw an increase in Printwaste customers achieving zero-to-landfill status – meaning that, last year, we generated enough electricity to make every person in the UK a cup of tea. That’s 65 million cups of tea in total.

As you probably already know, the new GDPR secure data legislation becomes law on 25th May 2018. We are here to help guide you through these changes. This year, we will also be making further capital investments, starting with a new lorry, which will arrive in March. This Euro 6 compliant hook-lift vehicle will aid our target of reducing carbon emissions per mile travelled. All investments are being made to positively affect our ability to recycle more products, and do so in the most environmentally-friendly and efficient way possible.

This is an exciting year with much in the pipeline, both at Printwaste and in the industry as a whole, and I look forward to working with you over the coming months.
