Mixed Recycling is one of the most essential recycling services for any business, as it covers a wide range of commonly used materials. The amount and type of recyclable waste can vary greatly depending on your how your business operates, which is why we offer three flexible storage options:

Bagged ‘Segregated’ Recycling bin

Bagged ‘Segregated’ Recycling

Where convenience meets sustainability. Individual waste streams bagged separately to reduce cross contamination and improve recyclability

Single Stream Bins

Single Stream Bins

Separate bins for each material. Ideal for businesses that produce a larger volume of particular waste stream(s)

Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) bin

Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR)

A single container for loose, co-mingled recyclables, typically used for high volume, where segregation at source is difficult

From Offices to Operations: Containers that help segregate recycling at source

Many businesses generate mixed recyclables from more than one area — offices, canteens, warehouses or production lines — each with their own requirements. We design recycling systems that make it simple to segregate recyclable materials at source, helping to reduce potential contamination, remain compliant with Simpler Recycling and streamline waste handling across your site.

For Office & Staff Areas:

For Production & Operational Areas:

Because many businesses combine office and operational spaces, we often install a mix of both systems — ensuring recycling is efficient, compliant and easy to manage across the whole organisation.

Mixed recycling – how it works

Step 1

Talk to us

Tell us about the volume of mixed recycling your business generates, and how and where you store it, or book a free waste audit with one of our experts at a time convenient to you. We will send you a bespoke proposal tailored to your requirements, showcasing how and where we can add value.

Step 2

Get your containers

We will provide a range of dedicated bins or containers to fit your available space and operations, making it safe and convenient to collect and store all your cardboard waste until it is collected. We will label them to help your staff use them correctly.

Step 3

Collection

We will collect and empty your bins according to your schedule and transport your mixed recycling back to our Materials Recycling Facility.

Step 4

Documentation

After each collection, you will receive a waste transfer note to keep you compliant with all relevant waste regulations, including the new Simpler Recycling rules.

Step 5

Recycling

All the mixed recycling is then sorted through our manual and automated picking line, before being baled and delivered to specialist reprocessing partners.

Frequently asked questions

If you use a variety of materials and produce relatively small amounts, then a wheelie bin for Printwaste’s mixed recycling service is likely the most suitable option.

However, if your business produces larger volumes of a particular waste stream, then a single stream container may be better-suited. Some of our customers use a mix-and-match approach, for example, having a separate bin for high volumes of cardboard, alongside another for general mixed recyclables.

Zero contamination. Recyclable waste loses its value when it's contaminated by other materials in the bin. By separating waste at the source, we significantly reduce the risk of contamination and ensure that materials remain suitable for recycling.

Yes, please rinse and drain all items before placing them in bins or bags. This reduces odour and contamination risks.

Food waste, polystyrene, general waste, glass, ceramics, garden waste, textiles, WEEE or hazardous materials like batteries or paint tins.

Place overflow items in clear sacks beside the bin. We’ll collect these at the next scheduled pickup. Additional lifts will be charged as agreed.

Not in standard mixed recycling. Flexible plastics and coffee cups require specialised processing and contaminate regular streams. We offer add-on services or can guide you to suitable disposal methods

Separating glass prevents contamination, protects other recyclables and reduces the risk of injury to workers handling broken glass

We offer regular (daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly) or on-demand collections based on your volume and container types. Extra collections can be booked in for times of overflow.
