Giving back this Christmas

News

Christmas is a time of giving and supporting others, and  We have recently supported Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, Colbalt and Gloucester Foodbank via Gloucester Quays Rotary Club and SK Heating & Cooling.

Sue Ryder Treecycling

For the second consecutive year, we have supported Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice by collecting Christmas trees from people’s homes in and around Cheltenham and Gloucester once the festivities are over.  In January 2022, more than 1,200 real Christmas trees were collected as part of their Treecycling campaign.  They were then chipped into mulch by the team at Greenway Tree Care and Landscaping and reused on land locally. We helped Sue Ryder raise a tree-mendous £17,000 for the Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Don Robins, Managing Director of Printwaste, said: “We are delighted to have supported Sue Ryder’s Treecycling scheme again. It’s been a monumental effort from all the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to collect the trees from homes across Gloucestershire; our team found it incredibly rewarding. As a zero to landfill company, we are grateful to those who chose to recycle their Christmas trees responsibly as well as donate money towards helping make the expert care and support available when it matters.”

Colbalt

The Big Sort is an annual campaign run by Colbalt to upcycle donated Christmas cards into new greetings cards to raise vital funds for the charity.  Printwaste has been involved in this campaign for the last 10 years.  Our involvement has always been to ensure that any waste leftover from the collection is transformed into other paper-based products, whilst also providing bins and bags to store the cards, and collect from participating collection points, prior to volunteers upcycling the cards.  Christmas 2021 proved another challenge for the team, with the increasing rate of Covid infections once again.

Colbalt has collected significant levels of cards once more, but as yet have been unable to sort them fully due to many of the volunteers that they use being in the vulnerable category.  We hope to be able to support them in recycling any leftover cards once the ‘Big Sort’ has taken place.

Gloucester Foodbank

We were delighted to support SK Heating & Cooling and Gloucester Quays Rotary Club in January 2022 with their drive to collect food donations in support of Gloucester Foodbank.  We had a collection bin in the office, which was overflowing with kind donations from our team.  The team from SK Heating & Cooling and Gloucester Quays Rotary Club distributed over 30 bins out into the local area and collected over 3 tonnes worth of food, plus two trailers and a van load of food too!

Thank you for all the generosity of our clients and local businesses who have helped in our support of these charities.
