Cheltenham-based Printwaste Recycling and Shredding is encouraging people to offer their used Christmas cards to be ‘upcycled’ by local medical charity, Cobalt. This is the sixth consecutive year Printwaste has supported Cobalt by encouraging their customers to donate used Christmas cards for the worthy cause.

Shortly after Christmas each year, Cobalt launches an appeal to members of the public to donate their used Christmas cards so that they can be recycled, re-made into new cards to be sold the following Christmas, raising vital funds for the charity.

Cobalt is a medical charity helping people affected by cancer, dementia and other life-limiting conditions. As part of the fundraising work used cards are‘upcycled’ and sold, raisingover £33,000 per year for the charity, this money will go towards various Cobalt projects including cancer and dementia research, a Teenage and Young Adults Cancer Nurse and will enable the Charity’s Imaging Centre in Cheltenham and their fleet of six mobile MRI scanners to stay at the forefront of diagnostic imaging technology for the benefit of every patient.

Printwaste not only encourages their customers to donate their used Christmas cards to Cobalt, which this year includes Birmingham City Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, Harrison Clark Rickerbys, Hazelwoods and Kohler Mira to name a few, they also recycle any leftover card waste free of charge. Printwaste Operations Director,Geof Robins said “It is such a great way of reusing unwanted used cards, raising vital funds for Cobalt in the process. I am so glad that our continued support for the local charity has helped increase the number of cards donated and of course our recycling services come in handy.”

Julia Jenkins, Interim Head of Fundraising at Cobaltsaid “We really appreciate the support of Printwaste all year, but especially during our ‘Big Sort’ each January. Please give your old Christmas cards to Printwaste in January, they will then deliver these to us to be sorted and re-made by our fantastic volunteers, ready to be sold next Christmas.
