Bovis Homes build their way to a landfill-free future

Case StudiesNews

This month, our customer focus is on (drumroll please)… Bovis Homes

Bovis Homes

Originally founded in 1885, Bovis Homes is a well-established UK house builder, and a member of the FTSE 250. The group is responsible for creating some of the best new homes in the country, from apartments and starter homes to six bedroom family houses.

Our partnership with them began 14 years ago, when we started recycling their used IT equipment and taking their WEEE off their hands, as well as providing a confidential shredding service to their Bishop’s Cleeve office.

Recently, though, our representative for the area, Simon Vincent, felt there was an opportunity to build on this partnership, and provide them with a more complete waste management service. So he headed over to Bovis Homes and gave them a knock on the door.

After chatting things through, it was clear that the recent GDPR changes had created several issues for the company. Previously, they had been using bags to store their confidential waste, but, under the new regulations, this was no longer a viable option. So, they needed a solution that adhered to the updated standards for data storage and destruction. In addition, following the implementation of GDPR, they were producing more confidential waste, and storage space was at a minimum. To solve both of these problems, Simon immediately quoted for a console service – which would be both lockable and able to hold much more material.

But he didn’t stop there. After completing a mini waste audit at the Bovis Homes site, looking at what waste streams were being deposited where, he felt there was an opportunity to increase the amount of materials being recycling, and, therefore, decrease those going through the waste-to-energy route. He invited Bovis Homes for a site visit at Printwaste, to show them in-person how many more waste streams we could provide for them, beyond WEEE and confidential.

Following this, in May this year, Bovis Homes decided to expand their partnership with us, and now have a tailor-made waste management system in place. They’ve brought in new recycling practices, such as replacing desk bins with our eco-sort recycling bins, and positioning these effectively within the office.  They’ve also achieved zero-to-landfill status at their Bishop’s Cleeve site, and we are now working hard to achieve this across their other two sites in Stafford and Coleshill. This has been an incredible transformation, and shows how, with a few simple changes and a whole team effort, we can all go green.

If you’re finding the GDPR changes are causing similar issues for your business, or you’d just like to have a chat about our waste management services, get in touch on 01242 588600 or at sales@printwaste.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help!
